Epic Games has launched Fab within its Launcher, offering streamlined access to a vast library of digital content, including Quixel Megascans. This integration simplifies asset discovery, download, and one-click export to popular DCC tools, marking the first step towards replacing Quixel Bridge.
Exciting news for digital creators! Epic Games has officially rolled out Fab in Launcher, seamlessly integrating its comprehensive digital marketplace directly into the Epic Games Launcher. This significant update promises to revolutionize how artists and developers discover, acquire, and manage assets for their projects, making the entire workflow faster and more convenient than ever before.
This integration is a strategic move by Epic Games to consolidate its creative ecosystem, providing a unified platform for all your digital content needs. While it brings many familiar features from Quixel Bridge, Fab in Launcher is designed to be the future of asset management, offering a robust and evolving solution for creators. The company has also celebrated this launch with its biggest ever drop of Quixel Megascans, featuring over 300 high-quality 3D scanned assets.
What Fab in Launcher Offers
Fab in Launcher brings many of the beloved functionalities of Quixel Bridge directly into your Epic Games Launcher. Users can now:
- Browse and Access Content: Explore Fab’s entire library, including all newest Quixel Megascans, and manage your acquired assets directly from the Launcher.
- One-Click Export: Send assets to popular Digital Content Creation (DCC) tools and game engines like Unity, Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, and Cinema 4D with a single click.
- Batch Operations: Download and export multiple assets simultaneously, significantly speeding up your workflow.
- Custom Licensee Access: Quixel custom licensees can still set up Megascans-only access.
- Tailored Export Flow: Utilize custom disk and socket export capabilities to fit your unique pipeline needs.
To get started, simply update to the latest version of the Epic Games Launcher and you’ll find Fab in the left navigation panel under Unreal Engine. Comprehensive documentation is available for a detailed guide on usage.
The Future of Quixel Bridge
For existing Quixel Bridge users, nothing is changing immediately. You can continue to use Bridge to access your acquired content. However, Fab in Launcher is the intended successor. Epic Games plans to eventually discontinue Bridge and Quixel.com once Fab offers a comprehensive alternative. It’s worth noting that new Megascans assets have been exclusively released on Fab since the beginning of the year. While most assets are migrating, some older ones that no longer meet quality standards will not be transferred.
While Fab in Launcher offers a robust experience, some functionalities from Quixel Bridge are still under development. For instance, direct export to tools like Houdini and Marmoset Toolbag is not yet supported. Additionally, the User Interface and discovery experience are different, and a Quixel login is not supported; you must use an Epic Games account. Offline access for custom licensees is also not yet available. However, Epic Games is actively working on new features and improvements, and you can track their progress on the Fab roadmap.
Deep Dive into Asset Management and Export
Fab in Launcher offers extensive customization for your Asset Management workflow. From the Fab settings, accessible via the gear icon, you can set your preferred download file location, default asset format, and quality tier for Megascans. You can also configure your default export target, saving time on repetitive tasks. The platform supports a wide range of industry-standard file types and popular DCCs, including those utilizing renderers like Arnold, Redshift, and Octane.
The system also facilitates custom export workflows. Using the ‘Custom (disk location)’ option, you can automatically copy downloaded assets to a specific local path. For advanced users and studios developing custom plugins, the ‘Custom (socket port)’ option allows for direct integration with your applications via a TCP port, enabling a highly tailored export process.
